  • Those look smart Turk. Can't wait for these to be ready. Going to look good and hopefully I'll be able to see where I'm going next winter :-)

Quick question - indicator units. Assuming these aren't included? Have the DRL lights at the moment so will need to source some.

    • Hi Paul,

Thanks mate, glad you like the 'new' look and yeah, they're really starting to look the part. A picture speaks a thousand words, but one thing it can't do is give you an idea of the rigidity of the assembly. They really do feel solid ......... and very very heavy !

I was going to try and source some indicators for members that'll be in the situation that you're in, and supply them myself, but I don't think I can compete price wise on 'VW Heritage' prices. I haven't spoken to them but I'm pretty sure the smoked indicators they sell are purely reproduction as VW only made the orange ones ( fried egg look ! ). If those include the bulb holder ( pic of bulb but no bulb holder ! ) then those are a good price.

Have a look here > https://www.vwheritage.com/transport...#page=0&top=1& and 'T4's R Us' also do them ........ but you have to be careful sometimes, as some companies don't sell the bulb holders with them ! as they will assume you already have one.

Also just found this > http://www.xtremevan.co.uk/product_i...oducts_id=5434 at that price I would assume that's not including bulb holder ! ......... which can be as much as £12.00 on it's own ! just wish these people would describe properly what we're buying ......... internet shopping is a guessing game isn't it !

When I'm a little more organised and ready to ship, I'll find a decent supplier that's not too costly and sells good quality indicators ........ then I'll be recommending them, right now it's any body's guess !

        • Thanks for that Jonny

Can't remember where I got my bulb holders from, but I did have to replace my knackered ones. I'll post back once I find the invoice. Also, as a side note ........ there are two types of bayonet bulbs ! so two different types of holders

            • Thanks Justin glad you're enjoying the write-ups, share the knowledge, that's what it's really about, and as it happens ....... my other hobby is photography, it seemed logical to combine the two.

I'm pretty sure that I would be remembered if the quad headlight project wasn't finished, or even abandoned for what ever reason ! But that would only happen if I kick the bucket !

Would I be forgotten after someone has parted with 500 quid !? ......... probably !

I'll need to know what bus type you have Mr Nozzle and the year please.

I'm as well as could be expected considering what I'm going through at the moment ! ........ definitely not a happy bunny !

I can't seem to find the parts required to continue, the project has been on hold for a few weeks.

I used to think that Internet shopping was the answer ( and it was, back in the day ), people ( retailers and suppliers ) embraced the new method of trading, it was all good for business. But now days we seem to have taken a major step backwards, Most retailers work on what is known as 'zero stock' policy, whereas they have no stock ........ so no money is tied-up.

We, as consumers scour the Internet for what ever we need, it used to be fun ..... point and click, then enter your CC details and the transaction was done.
In the last few weeks I've had a mare to be honest, a simple task of buying various parts, nuts and bolts, screws and general consumables has descended into what can only be described as a farce In the last few months I have spent more time on my PC ordering ( trying to order actually ! ) various bits for various projects I'm working on. What I'm currently working on is building various jigs and modifying machines for the tasks in hand, but I'm getting nowhere fast

When I go into my workshop, it so sad seeing various projects just sitting idle, incomplete projects just about everywhere as there's something missing ! You kind of lose your 'mojo' ......... these last few weeks my enthusiasm and creativeness has been replaced by anger and head full of empty space ! It's hard to describe how one feels when you can't feel anything ! I hope you all understand where I'm coming from with that statement, I'm also in a state of disbelief of how various companies operate these days. Buying things online these days has really become an unenviable task, as an example, one particular part I was after ( that I've only just been able to get hold of ) cost only €17 but they want €37 to deliver it ! The retailer' website is a total nightmare ........ I had four separate attempts at placing the order. As I take screenshots of the transaction I ended up with 60 different screenshots !

One of the issues for the orders not being recognised is the dreaded 'Visa Verification' system employed by most companies. Over here in France, they have to SMS a 6 digit code to your mobile phone for the transaction to go through, so all of a sudden your Internet service provided are involved and so is your bank, and they frequently go wrong. The level of security imposed on credit card transactions has got to the point where I can't even use my own credit card for online purchases !

When your transaction ( order ) is finally accepted you feel you can now celebrate ........ run around the office and doing backward flips all the while laughing out load uncontrollably ........ then they confirm your purchase via email with the delivery date. 22nd of June ! Hold on a fuck'in minute !!! their website said it was in stock ! So you ring em up and you're told "Oh, no .... we don't hold them in stock, we order them from CHINA when we need them" !

So, I would ask everybody to please be patient, this will happen, but yet again I have be foiled by circumstances beyond my control

I'll leave you all with this thought - "If your toolbox only contains a hammer, you better make sure all your issues are nails" !

Yeah, I know what you mean Arfur ....... 'All good things come to he who waits'
But how long does one wait before giving up !?

I do have faith in others mate, individuals, but I have lost my faith in retailers, suppliers and manufacturers who seem to have lost the basic concept of selling a product. After all, as consumers we are their bread and butter. A member on the other forum gave me three different links to suppliers for a specific part I was after ....... I emailed all three, not a single one responded ! I would of been grateful for even one response saying that they won't supply me as they didn't ship to France, but they couldn't be bothered.

Not being able to procure parts or continue on with a certain task, only makes me more persistent and determined in attaining my goal.

Over six weeks has now been lost on the project, I was hoping to be at the actual headlight cover prototyping at this stage, and planning on shipping the first orders out before October .......... can't see that happening now it's going to take at least 3 to 4 months to get the headlight cover right.
