  • I've been working on a floor cut for the last few weekends. Id previously had it soaking in citric acid for weeks but then the padding pool leaked and the rust came back before id noticed so I've been giving it a clean up and repair. The last pic has hydrate 80 on it.
Today I set about cutting the old floor bit out my van
you can see mine was too far gone. Probably like rest of van. then I started cleaning up the chassis cos I ran out of cutting disks. Its gonna need lots of cleaning and prep before the repair cut goes in. But its a start. more cutting and cleaning next weekend

    • How big is your paddling pool come citric acid bath Neil? You've got your work cut-out (no pun intended) there bud!

      • As big as I could buy at the time to fit it in Rob. Got an early finish today so went straight to van. Mare rusty shit cut out, a wee bit more cleaned back to shiny metal then hydrate 80 treatment. And a replacement cross section bit? Made.

        • Hats off to you Neil. If you know someone with a deep pool it could be worth dropping the whole van in citric! You'll be one hell of a bodywork specialist after this project, although made easier with the bite-sized chunks you're breaking it down into!! ;-)

            • Haha yea Rob. If I did that I think I'd only have the dash and plastics left at the end. Ill know every inch of this van. At least I'm getting the opportunity to work on the chassis from above :/

Haha it wasn't dry today. I had to shut the tailgate for a hour as it was pissing it down and the wind was blowing it straight in.

                  • Just got home from A+E. Ive got a bit metal stuck in my eye. Well, i had a bit. The doctor removed it. But there's a rust ring still there so he's referred me to an eye clinic tomorrow. I thought i had done it yesterday. But hes says a few days ago cos of the rust ring. And I was wearing a full face mask/shield. Maybe I've rubbed it in? I dunno but it was friggin annoying

                        • I’m forever getting shit in my eyes and I nearly always wear goggles. Shit flys at your face then bounces of your cheek or in my case, caveman forehead and perfectly into your retina. Annoying as fuck.

                          • You just love that feeling of someone stirring a coffee mug full of sand that is having metal dug out of a numbed eye, and you cant look away. Last eye test they told me i have 12 scars on the left eye and 26 on the right.

                            • Only thing worse is feeling a spark bouncing down your lug hole till you get the blinding flash that is a burst ear drum. Then weeks of snot from the ear till its recovered.Missed Hereford's FA cup win at Elland Road cause of it in 2007

                              • Had this tail end of last year along with the rust ring - had to get it burred out in hospital. Prior to this I was still determined to take the van for a drive after getting it tax'd, MOT'd and newly insured, even though the sun was glaring and I hadn't fitted up the sun visors. Wasn't my smartest move with one eye behaving like a water fountain. Since invested in some better enclosed 3M gogs and do any metalwork looking like a skydiver.
