Been spending the last couple of days since meeting Arf in the Algrave. We have been absolutely blown away by the scenery.
The temps are just a little bit cooler here presumably because of the Atlantic, it’s absolutely perfect weather for sleeping in the vans as it’s nice n cool at night but still hot enough in the day to make you feel you are on holiday!

We have been working our way up Spain’s east coast these last few day’s soon to cross back over into France.
Nerja caves
Nerja town
Frigliana
These buildings were the inspiration for the telly tubbies
Sierra Nevada national park. This photo is from 3500m up. The van drove up 2500m of those.
Got the bike out for a day of lift assisted riding.
Stopped to look at the view about 1500m on the way down.
Drove up this incredible mountain pass near carboneras.
Strange red gravel roads were cool.
Stopped at the beach for lunch.
Drove up another serious mountain pass to get to the Castillito Batteries. Extremely strange and interesting batteries that were built in the 30’s to defend the spanish armoury and port at Cartegena. The architects went crazy when designing the barracks, building random towers, making it look like a castle, tunnels everywhere and bizarrely ornate frontages for industrial buildings. It’s basically abandoned now and you can clamber and climb all over it and have a proper explore. Unfortunately it has been heavily graffitied as a result of having no protection.
Hell of a view up there.
Disneyland esque entrance
Huge Vickers Anti-Naval gun. This gun could fire a tonne as far as 35km. They were only ever fired once. The deterrent was enough on its own to protect the port and arsenal.
Random towers. Each one was just a spiral staircase upstairs. Surely impractical but they look cool.
A couple of the old houses near the barracks (perhaps for generals or officials) are still there. This one was particularly nice with a lovely garden and a pool with an incredible view!
Huge ornate frontage for essentially storage rooms, sleeping quarters and bathrooms.
We really were exploring at golden hour.

Slept here at a place called Peniscola!!!
And then went to a beach up the road. One of the nicest beaches I’ve been too in a while. Crystal clear warm water, soft and shallow and sandy. Oh and a pint of San Miguel for €3.
Drove through Barcelona late last night (Barcelona is under a partial lockdown so we didn’t stop in the city. Always something to come back to!) Should cross the border into France today or tomorrow.
