Last chance saloon...I attacked the corsa today.
Convinced that the head gasket is leaking across the pots I made a leak down tester, there are no leaks, its all fine. Plugs ok too.
Noticed the cam chain seemed a little slack? Never dealt with cam chains on a car engine before, is it tensioned by a spring or oil pressure?
Cams were timed ok though.
After a lengthy fit when I didn't unbolt the EGR pipe, I eventually got the intake off, it's pretty grim inside
Didn't clean it because CBA.
Then the postie turned up with my second hand engine wiring loom as I still think its an electrical issue, whilst taking the loom out I got to this ECU connector
Which had this burnt out pin
Maybe this is the cause of the problems? Hope so.
The new loom had a slightly different connector with heavier gauge wire and bigger contacts, maybe there was a known issue which got a factory upgrade?
Because the two connectors wont mate, I'm just going to solder the wires together

Usually oil pressure pushes on a guide rail on chain engines but given how those Vauxhall’s sound when they’re running ‘properly’ I’d say that slack is probably normal lol
Good news on finding the connector. What was that pin for, do you know? Or care even haha.
Hopefully this will sort it as there’s nothing worse than searching and looking through heaps of shit when buying a new motor.

Sorted, running sweet again!
Either it was in the loom that I replaced or more likely it was down to that burnt out contact pin. Happy days!
As it may now be a keeper I changed the water pump, washed the engine bay, cleaned the interior, cut the very faded blue paint and black dyed all the plastic, its looking pretty damn good.
Now to find out how to tackle the timing chain
Obviously it means I've got to take the engine mount and water pump off again, no big deal.
All I'm thinking for the cam chain is to remove cover, tensioners and chain, put on new ones - there's talk of special tools but surely cant be that tricky? (I've rebuilt a lot of engines in the past) but only ever bike engines with chains and they are typically crank out jobs.

I've found out the process, quite complicated for something that could be much much more simple.
Here's the car now, half detailed because I ran out of time, scrubbed up ok though for a free car that had moss and lichens growing on it.
Bonnet was left half done so you can see the difference.
And dont go bitching about content and how this is the T4 forum - look at the reflection in the door.

All I can see is your gable on the bonnet.

Get the Golf up, I'm warming to the dull as ditchwater golfs, I'm also now quite fond of my Corsa. There I said it.

I tried following your directions but got bored. What I did notice though is the wheels? I thought you had some sick rims on it blud?
May do a bit on the lardy mk4 turd. Done a couple little bits to it to transform the handling so worth documenting. That alone and I wouldn’t bother but with the VRT coming at some point, it will get interesting one day.

- Up until yesterday I didn't know if it was a keeper
- My boy is supposed to be learning to drive in this car, how long do you give the rimz?
- I've been using it to get to work on pot holed salt strewn roads
- The tyres on it are like new, albeit 145 section bike tyres. Shame to waste them when I bin the steels, doubt I could sell them, suppose they would be fine for a trailer?
- I'm not sure what messages I would be sending out, driving a riced up corsa when I have already been through puberty and seen a real vagina, some sort of strange mid life crisis? I've a hankering to cut the springs and fit a 4" tailpipe though. reminds me....I've got a tow strap in the garage, and neonzz.
