While the van is away I can't go camping so I may as well use the time to progress a few jobs for his return. One of these I've been meaning to do are the dash plastics.....again. Third time lucky, they say.

Remember the old incarnation? Version two?



Not sure what I was thinking but it didn't turn out how I wanted really. Also, the rust in a can reacted badly with the aluminium paint so it had to go.



I'm sick of sanding stuff now. First coat is a grey primer colour matt finish.

I've blu-tacked the pieces to the board so they are in the position they will be when back in the van. Next I applied white with a brush I had hacked half the bristles out of.



I'm aiming for a distressed wood effect.

Finally, I repeat the process with a darker grey colour.



Looks a bit ropey at the minute because it's not subtle enough but it will be when sanded back with some fine sandpaper. After this I will clear varnish it. I will do the light and abs/airbag light parts when the van returns.

After being dragged around Dealz (Poundland but its 1.50e) this morning i spotted these.



Little tea light holders. Just what I need.
The quality is suspect but that shouldn't matter for what I have planned. They are too wide though so out with the grinder.

Reduced in width and stuck back together. I'm going o spray them cream to match the drawers in the unit. I have the little micro l.e.d lights to go in and will attach them in the recess of the rear panels later. I will cut the glass down and silicone it in.

Thanks, you're on. Only in July and August though....

I also rough chopped out some of the packing crate wood to form a mirror frame. More on that when I get chance. For the time being my next task is to take the checker plate step edging from foot raping sharp edge;




to rounded, filed and sanded gently smooth. There's two to do both top and bottom edges........f#cking great. Best crack on, suppose it beats telly.

Time for a quick update.
I fitted the tops to the steps.

And the plates around the interior handles. This covers the gap in the panel the previous owner hacked in it and also keeps prints from sticky fingers off the paint.
