Ha ha.. you don't own Vw's and have money?!

That's actually only half, there's also another storage yard and I've four at home but I can't take credit for them all as there not all mine. The problem with sitting on a vehicle for endless years hoping the value will increase is that it's not healthy for the vehicle and the storage costs will soon start adding up taking a lot of potential profit out of it (if that's solely what your doing it for)

I've been deliberately holding off with updates until I had something interesting to share, so appologies as this is a biggish update.

I been plodding on with carpet lining and had the very unpleasant job of removing the remainder on the bulkhead properly (unlike using the knife and fork like the person who removed it!).

Filthy job over, not helped with the fact my spot weld drill is dead and I found out screwfix no longer stock them.

                  Worth doing though,

I had to put the carpetting on hold, mainly because I'm running out and the 10m2 hasnt gone as far as I'd hoped but im going to have to finish the larger panels before finishing the smaller bits like the passenger B pillar.

So next step ws to measure up.... more on this later.

Before laying down the brightest, funkiest flooring I could find. Theres not a lot of choice out there with laminates, its either traditional wood or dilapadated weather wood there were three different types of this but this was the brightest with colour in it.

Its been nothing but positive comments so far from everyone whos seen it in the flesh. Sadly the same cant be said about the carpetting lol.

Then after ALOT of planning, head scratching and numerous trips to Ikea.. I settled on a plan...

So went and collected this lot..

The problem I had (which nearly gave me a meltdown in Ikea) is the height to the window in the van is 70cm but the only units supplied by Ikea are either 60 or 80 heigh. So my options were to go with 60 heigh units and space them out to fit but I think this would look silly. So not one to do things the easy way I decided to buy the 80 units and shorten them to the desired 70.

Lots of photos in no particular order,

New rebuilt 70 unit next to the 80 original

Since I ended up cutting so much into the depth of the unit I had to choice, to either botch the back or simply (!?!) shorten the cupboard. Sacrificing space but I think its given a better looking finish, oh for a table saw when doing stuff like this.

Then onto the fun stuff, the edges of the cupboards dont sit flush with the top or bottom so these needed to be flush trimmed with a router and while the router was out it would be rude not to make use of it.

I dont like LED's when they are left bare and you can see each single light, so as a bit of an experiment I decided to make a diffuser for them. My very cheap, simple solution and 18p water bottle minus the water of course.

With the top and bottom of the bottle cut off it was then cut into lengths,

                  And stapled over the LED's

Then sanded and scuffed up disperse the light.

Its impossible to photograph but it does work well, I think it could do with being sanded a little more basically until you literally cant see the lights through the plastic.

With it all completed it was time for the first test.

I think im being a little ambitious trying to squeeze two drawers in, especially since I have no bed yet to test it with. worst case secnario is that I'll have to loose a drawer.

Worktops and trim panels next, I've had to order the doors and I'll be back in work next week so its going to be a long two week wait to see the final look.

Ha ha.. sometime in life the simplest ideas work out the best!

It works a lot better than I imagined it would, its hard to show but you can just about see it here. Front half is covered rear isn't.

Was gutted but should actually be a easy fix. Got a weeks wait now for the doors, next step is finish of the roof panels and lighting.

                                Cheers Dude means alot,

I was going to call this the two grand camper project as thats the limit I've set myself for it. Still a long way to go and depending which way I go with the beds thats going to be a big chunk but the total so far tallys up to £1583.87p and thats including the purchase price of the van. Luckily I had the donor engine at my disposal and maybe im regretting not going the TDi route while I had the chance but theres plenty of time for that.
