Would you say the lack of power had been since then? My stepdad has had the same issues with his, apparently there are two marks to set the timing and even if they are slightly out it can cause the symptoms you are getting.

No, the lack of power has only been over the last couple of weeks, every now and again it would lose that oomph when you put your foot down and then it would be ok, it now it seems that it’s lost it completely. The van drives ok but it now takes a while to get up to speed and when I put my foot down you get a big deal plume of Black smoke

Do you know what that has crossed my mind as to whether it is that or not, I’ve heard you can unplug it and drive without it to see if it makes a difference

You can give it a try, if it is that don’t do what I did with our golf and try saving money on a cheap one, they are shit and it only lasted about a month. Go for Bosch if you can stretch to it.

That’s what I plan on doing over the weekend as advised by Activ8 and hopefully it might be something simple, I have noticed that the fuel return pipes on the injectors have perished so there maybe others that need replacing
