Gear Linkage Selector Bushes

hi all i have to do the Gear Linkage Selector Bushes on my 1995 t4 1.9td any one got any tips or tricks
i have had it for 2 years and the last owner had it held held in place with cable ties and not in the cup a couple snapped and i couldn't get 5 gear

IIRC the Queniborough Oracle 'Dr Q' recommended using a genuine VW bush when replacing socket bush 45/53 because they have a hard life.
