  • Don't Believe A Word

Think it's 21 years now we've had are Corrado. Had a few little engine management issues over the years, temp sender, lambda, throttle switch. According to the experts at South Hereford Garages and numerous know all specialists it don't have a 16 pin OBD port. I've always got to the bottom of above issues the old way with a multimeter and the various pin data from the excellent reprint of the American Vdub manual (T4 version available if you have the income of a central America drug lord) . Well while messing about in it yesterday guess what I found.....ahh thats it an obd port. And I've even been able to have a little chat with it. The Volvo has a 16 pin OBD-II but I’ll be fucked if anything I’ve got will communicate with it. Tried a cheap reader for a laugh and the Snapon MT2500. Fuck all. Not sure if the Volvo rosstech equivalent VIDA will work. Need to get one and try it.

The experts told me the Corrado had the old 2 pin type that flashs the engine light. Strangely it dont have a mil light. But my cheap vdub reader can speak to it so happy daze. What year is the Volvo Tommy? The ones i dealt with had a plug under the bonnet with a little wire next to it you plugged in then you could read the dots and dashs on the little led on top of it. All very technical in 1993. What got me thinking about the Corrado was the fact my 2.4 96 Doka has the port so why not the N reg VR6? I suspect the trouble with the experts is they've all done an 18 month appenticeship and only worked on new stuff.

1995 and it’s not got the plug under the bonnet as I read about that. They’re found just behind the drivers side headlight just in front of the ECU box. It doesn’t have the flash codes either. Mines got a removable coin holder in from of the gearstick with the 16 pin and “OBD-II” marked on the coin holder. Coin holder hahahahaha. Retro as fuck.

Which ECU type does it run TP?
Pre-96, it could be the Motronic 4.3/4.4 rather than Bosch version. Pre-96, it'll run an OBD language called OBD LCDB2.
Try contacting ilexa.co.uk 0726-884010 for advice. They sell the VOL-FCR , its a PC based code reader which covers pre 2000 Volvos. You can download a demo version from their site to test in the car.

My god I feel old when someone refers to something nineties as "retro as fuck". I'll get me Zimmer frame.

In my mind the 90s are the future would have expected to have been nuked in WW3 by then or we wouldn't have telephones but teleporters instead

Motronic 4.3. Thanks for the info, I’ll give them a call and see. My understanding is that it’s very early OBD2 and not full compatible until 1999?

That’s because everything of my era is soulless bland horseshit.

1996 iirc, so the slightly later Motronic 4.4 is fully OBDII compliant. The under bonnet connect is OBDI (one).
Sent a WA message re using 12v LED bulb and switch, but it's like morse code tbh.

On the other hand I was disappointed to find that WVan has no coin-holder, as all of my local supermarkets' trolleys don't yet accept plastic. Is this the real reason why VAG changed the design and brought out the subsequent models?

Is the Truth out there somewhere?

Where in this Country takes coins Jim? Everything is pretty much app, online, touch or cashless. The bucket accuracy tests at tolls have disappeared, more to speed the flow of traffic but more importantly to free up the grumpy kiosk twats for availablity at Aldi & Lidl.
Put a handy and removable trolley disc on your trouser fly Jim?
