Other options for knocking could be ARB hitting subframe in which case you need shorter drop links, or if when steering over bumps could be track rod against chassis

track rods were miles away, besides it's straight lines, small bumps in road that are causing the drumming like a duff ball joint (it's not that but I did do out in the dark last night with a torch to check I had tightened the lower ball joints to the hub after removing them to swing the driveshafts away.
