Most people put a spacer under the step and rest the step onto the flooring. (use a section of the flooring used)
Your mitres need tidying, it looks a bit 'diy'. If you used the step moulding as the threshold, it would have been just as quick to do (probably quicker) but would look so much better.

It’s a fair point though. It does already have screw holes through the moulding unfortunately from the plywood (that came with the van).
I’d like to pretend that was the reason but in truth I didn’t think of it haha

but....two seconds and the rack just lifts off.
They are not bolted in place but have a lever action clamp that attaches to the towball - I was sceptical it would stay in place during the constant pounding of a long drive.
I used mine up and back to santa pod with three bikes on board - no problems
