I’ll start with a bit of background, I grew up with my dad having all kinds of camper vans, from VW LT’s to Bedford CF’s. I’d always wanted a van but I never quite got myself round to buying one. Then I met my Mrs and her dad is a T4 enthusiast, he has converted the last 3 T4’s he’s owned. So seeing his van gave me the bug for wanting a van again.
So last year, I think it was around July, we all went camping, me in my Renault Captur with a tent and everyone else in a T4. It rained hard and the wind blew almost everyone’s tent into a pile (our tent was saved by the T4 shields we had).
It just so happened that one of the father in laws friends was selling his van, he’d insulated and carpeted the back and built a bed in it just for that specific weekend. We liked the look of it and agreed that me and the Mrs would have it for our little lad because he loves his grandads van.
I got round to insuring it in September ‘18 just in time for my birthday and we headed out to the Peak District, pulled up in a lay-by and spent the night, it was one of the best feelings in the world, the next morning I cooked our breakfast on the road with a little portable gas stove.
We mooched around in it for a bit and chilled.
The following month we had our first camping trip with the van, felt so good to be in a van and not a tent.
In the next post I’ll talk about the plans for the van
