Arfs right. The fact your build is both concisely written and documented with pics, will no doubt aid other others on their pathway to safe vanlife perfection.

    • I think all install with gas should have to be checked by qualified people. I serviced a Toyota camper and the lady asked if I did the interior stuff. I said you need qualified folk and I only did the running gear side of it. She got someone in mobile, went to Ireland and the fridge gassed her, stone dead. Don't fuck about with that stuff.

        Exactly this.

Fred in his shed can knock out any old conversion and then sell it.
        That can't be right, surely.

I'd suggest many owners and van life campers overlook it out of cost and/or convenience, likewise buying the internal atmosphere monitors to warn of gas issues, ventilation or taking on an installer that Certifies or suggests it. It's not just the Mother State that's potentially at fault.
          It's often simple common sense.
          We're responsible.

          • Are Reg takes a carbon monoxide alarm with him whenever he overnights somewhere. One in a van would be aust I reckons.

              • Thanks for all the compliments guys, really appreciate them as always

Obviously agree with all the acknowledgments to the safety testing.
Seems very little point investing all the time and money only to build yourself a big expensive coffin to fall asleep and never wake up in. Or, simply to watch it all go up in smoke, just for the sake of some extra pennies to get it over the finish line and ensure you can enjoy it safely.

Once it was all done and pretty much dusted, it was time to throw a few odds and sods I'd collected at the interior just to finish it off.
Not before fitting a shelf in the cupboard which houses the Porta Potti though. This would save lifting it over the hinges every time to get it in and out…

I've put the hook-up extension cable and other hook-up adapters under there. No doubt more junk too, in time.

Fixed up the carbon monoxide alarm on one side of the units, and the obligatory bottle opener on the other…

Fitted up a wooden 'Tiki Wetsuits' plaque over the units on the fridge side. Got this plaque along with a few other goodies from a local independent skate, surf and snowboard job I used to shop in and collect my used skate decks from a good few years back before it sadly closed down.
Got to know the guys quite well that worked in there. They gave me a heads up of when to go along to snaffle some stuff up before the liquidators went in.

Had a couple of Mexican blankets to throw down onto the seats. Bit of a head nod to the hot rod scene as well as tying in well with the whole colourful skateboard laminate stripe theme going on…

Also fitted up a couple bags made of Mexican blankets to the side walls. Handy for dropping in nik naks, whatever?…

Another trophy from the board shop was this 'Vans' mat I took from one of the changing rooms. Super tough, commercial grade, and best of all it's machine washable. Perfect colourways for the interior, so I trimmed and fit it near the threshold of the cab.
If you're wondering why I didn't put it at the entrance of the tailgate, it's because I'd have to move it every single time I wanted to open cupboard doors and drawers.

Things worked out just as I'd hoped. The red is no longer so dominant but makes for a good base under the riot of colour.

Table out which I made from skateboards…
