Derbyshire new school year starts mid-September due to an extraordinary number of "inset days", I tried being a School Parent Governor but had to leave as the 'system & processes' were never siting comfortable with me!

No kidding!

Our kids school seems to randomly shut at very short notice and your just expected to deal with it - yeah....like we can magic up time off with a weeks notice. Parents have a duty to ensure the kids attend school and fine you £60 if they don't - maybe I should fine the school £60 everytime the teachers decide they need a day off because they cannot manage six weeks consecutive work without a holiday.

For some reason my boy has a 2 week half term in October! Right pain when you only get 15 days leave after Xmas entitlement taken out.

Yes. I had this too earlier in the year with the snow. One teacher had a recently bought a newish LR Defender and couldn't make it in due to the state of the roads! Not the only reason to shut a school I know, but the Head refused to follow-up the staff "excuses" - it was a numbers exercise pure and simple. -20% staff = shut school.

Did you claim your parental leave Tommo? I think that's valid upto the child's 18th birthday.

Ooh never seen that before. I’ve got it as part of my agreement that I can take unpaid leave as well as statutory leave and can build up extra hours too, so I’m quite lucky there really mate.

You rascal - that's just the ones you're declaring hey Si....?[emoji6] As the employer you should be fully aware of your employees legal rights and find a suitable Notice Board to notify yourself on!
