          • A big thanks to Hans (Andreas) for some late night Whatsapp assistance. The new caliper splash guard plates I'd bought don't fit the ATE (FNR) 313mm calipers. I'd double checked part numbers some time back for the V6 models, Andreas also did some research. There are none was the result, nothing on ETKA. It turns out the lesser powered v6 (98-00) uses a 300mm caliper where the standard guards fit at 305mm, not so for the 313's clearly..... hold on a mo, Andreas stated he'd fitted a set ....
Ahhhh, so thats how you fit them. Not the best but at this point I just want it done and as Ive invested in new guards why not!
            Cheers mate.

            • Back on the ramp this morning.
Lost my two hours yesterday afternoon as some chuffin "new "fiat hogged it for most of the day as the Ford spares supplied don't actually fit the bag of shite.

One carrier and caliper done. Kevs tool he made me for boring the 16mm knuckle carrier holes to 18mm worked a dream. Fitted new oem hoses for the brake pad wear cabling.

Only negative so far is the ATE caliper repair kits. One has fitted fine the other looks identical but the piston is 3mm longer and the 57mm piston seal a completely different design!

              • The gear linkage just needed adjusting fortunately I'd marked it up when it was done theee years ago. Just need to test drive it once the rest is finished.

Just an observation mate. But aren’t the coilover adjusters supposed to go on the top. They’ll sit flush against the floor, then the smaller pigtail end of the spring fits nice on the swing arm.

                  • The after market springs have flat coiled pigtails so fit flush with the van top and bottom when its back on four wheels. The adjuster at the top fouls and/or is obscured for adjustment depending on the position its wound to. Its still WIP as the new tyre size and new ride height still need to be set. Its still on the ramp tonight because the larger rear pads were incorrectly supplied.

The rear caliper is identical for the v6 and 2.5TDI. You upgrade the caliper carrier with pn#7D0615425A (2) , bolts are identical M8x22 (4) so clean and reuse, but replace the discs and pads with the larger disc 294x13.5mm pn#7D0615601C and larger pads pn#7M3698 451D or 451F.

                    T4 TDI, 280x12 Pads

T4 V6, 294x13.5 Pads with deeper surface area.

                        • Back on the ramp later today, checked the torque settings to go over it before the road test.
The ATE FNR (313mm) has far higher caliper carrier torque settings at 355Nm , 75Nm more than any other in the range.
Only found this info in the Haynes Manual too!
According to the Conti Teves ATE tech specs the 313mm are 30% more powerful than their ATE FN3 (300mm) version as fitted oem to the AXG/AHY 150bhp models.

                          • Probably got something to do with the top speed, something got to slow a heavy van down from 125 mph (speedo reading)

Utterly useless bollocks all this. I’ve never heard such a bunch of dick measuring pub bragging bullshit in all my life.

The 280mm solids lock out fine on typical tyres so going to a vented of any size is enough. We’ve been over this.

I guess 280mm solid discs are fine for your 3 speed auto V6 then?
