Welcome to the forum Dtabster! ☺
On a note about ticking 1.9TD engines - make sure your using the right oil in it, don't bother with the cheap stuff, use proper VW stuff (Quantum?)... 👍
Too heavy and it ticks, even when warm - too light even more so.
If you can see the bottom pulley wobbling around then worry! 😱😱

Ha ha! Yep, turn up the stereo! 👍😁 Cause a conversation at cruising speed is out of the question... I know it is mine... 😁😁

Yeah I've recently had the cambelt done by a local vw specialist so no worries about the bottom pulley although i do check it every now and again.
It's always sounded the same since i brought it tbh and i did an oil change then but might do another soon as it's probably nearly due.

Mine was noisy, tappety (especially with the bonnet open), quite a harsh vibration through the air-box (holding it subdued it).

In the future gonna change the air box with some kind of induction kit , scoop on outside and duct up to filter

Is there not some issue when the vacuum pump causes a tapping noise?

Yeah , if you pump the brake it stops , mine still taps so it's not that , I can hear it though rocker cover [emoji30], however it's still as powerful lol , we've done some miles in him this last year so surprised nothing else has happened ... [emoji13]

I am not sure but I think that's a rotary pump which is on early models ?? I think I read that on the other forum

Yes mate but it will stop tapping if you press the brakes, it isn't that with mine although it isn't as tappy since I had the belt and timing done.
