That's a first then , everyone I've ever experienced has always droned something terrible - hateful things on a long run at steady revs.

    What have you got fitted?

TBH I never really took much notice of the noise with my old filter. Wouldn't be anything to do with mine being a long nose would it? The routing is the same and don't think there is much more sound deadening on the bulkhead in a caravelle ?

Just the noise, it runs fine, but as reg says, on long journeys it makes me want to cut my ears off

                • Not sure RJ, mines an early van with a 1.9tdi ahu conversion

                    • So, suspension fitted back up, torsion bar disconnected I jacked the van up on the wishbone to try and get the dampers to bottom out to see the sort of travel available and the sort of drop I could expect

Pretty disappointing really, the weight of the van is on the damper alone, thought it might be on the bumpstops but alas no.

But when I connect the torsion bars and drop the van back down I realise I've already ruined it as the jack wont come out, so lifted up on the smaller jack, I remove the big jack and then lower it to the floor again.

That's a bit lower, it's not low but it is lower.

Good 10mm to the bumpstops, there is movement on the damper but it doesn't look a lot.

A steady drive and all is fine, lock to lock with no scrapes but it is close

And yes they are 235s made of pure chinesium.

Until I sort the damper situation out I might wind the torsion bars up a touch, currently have 3-4 threads showing.

                      • Just buy some EGC's from eBay Germany, best of the cheap short dampers

                        • ...and you could lathe another 10mm off that bump stop

                          • It looks bloody close on that last picture, surely it will touch if you go even lower.

                              Nah it's clear - just.

I'll wind it back up a touch for now - until I get the rear done to suit.

I've got a lot of work to do under the van, I don't want to have to get a jack out everytime I need to reach a bolt or whatever so it'll go back up again for now - at the very least it'll piss sausages off.
