Is he a registered business? He's in breach of contract, so why not fire a letter over to him giving him 28 days to complete the work as agreed or you'll be seeking compensation legally.

Right, take some pics to demonstrate what the state of play is. What's the history of the 1.9?

I may know a man who can?
Can you transport the van to Derby?
Yes I paid him upfront, yes stupid I know. And the engine I fetched from Essex with 124,000 miles on the clock.its got a guarantee with it so Iím happy with the engine, just not the fella who was putting it in

Next job get your camera / phone out and let's take a look. More pics the better.

General rule cars & vans below 100bhp ran VAGs own derived 02A/02B gearboxes. Above 100bhp were Quaife supplied with higher ratings.

Well thats a help as I didn't think you could inter change them. Not much electric to sort so if the engine and box are in it shouldn't be that much left to do.

Have you considered finishing the job yourself? These really are brilliant motors to learn on and especially that engine with it being such a simple and basic design. Youíll get plenty of help on here with anything youíre unsure of. Yeah itíll take a bit of time and research before you get going but the bulk of the work is done really and the satisfaction youíll get, not to mention practical skills will be unparalleled. Most importantly itíll help you at the roadside in future
