Hi all!
This is my first post (and by that I mean my first post any where).
I was sat in Halfords car park near Cambridge last weekend as I needed a new battery for my 1994 T4 Westfalia (2.4d automatic). They sent someone out to see if the battery was on its way out and the guy (who had to borrow my 10mm socket) tried to take the battery cover off by tightening the bolt. I gently pointed this out at about the same time he pointed out it would cost me £15 to get him to fit my new battery. Slightly concerned I said I could fit the battery myself if he would lend me his 13mm socket... no go as this might leave them liable due to health and safety??? I went to sit in the back of the van to contemplate my options. It was at this point that I noticed a fellow Halfords customer peering into the van. I said hello and he said he was just admiring my van. Turns out this guy had 2 T4’s, was a trained mechanic and a thoroughly good bloke. It also turned out that he has a discount card and 10 minutes to spare to help me fit my new, heavily discounted battery.
To cut a long story short, he recommended that I get on this forum as it’s full of advice, interesting posts and good people. So here I am. I’m not very mechanical, I own an unread Haynes manual on the T4 but absolutely love the freedom this van gives me and my family.
Thank you to the guy in Halfords (near Cambridge), you really sorted us out. I didn’t get your name but have a feeling we’ll bump into you some day soon at one of those VW shows you were telling us about!
Cheers.
