Where are you based and how far would you travel and what’s your budget ? We as a collective will find you a van .

I posted this in another thread too but useful here aswell.

My budget is about £4000-£5000

My first thoughts were finding a t4 panel van for about £3000 and then using £2000 to get cambelt done and some interior.
I’m finding it hard to find a t4 panel van for that money that’s not rotten, I don’t want a van that’s already had lots of welding or about to need.
I’ve seen a really clean t4 but it’s already carpeted and had belt done but it’s priced out of budget.

So I started looking at 1.9tdi t5 panel vans, I’ve seen these for more like max end of my budget but the van itself looks solid. There’s also an auctions near me that had a few ex housing association t5 in with guise price of £2-3k. Bit beat up on bodywork but solid looking, I’ve been to see them, they start fine, look ok but obviously an auction by scares me.

Sooo I just keep my daily hunt of everything

Ideally I’d like a lwb 1.9 or 2.5tdi t4 or a 1.9tdi t5, tailgate would be a added bonus. both vans have their ups and downs as far as I can see.
I’m in South Wales but willing to travel for right van and untill August I only have a £3k budget

Well worth a look at these two vans

The white ones mot history isn’t very rust friendly, Serious suspension mounting point weakening rust kinda puts me off.

The red one is local to me and I got all excited when I seen 2.5tdi in the write up, I got sucked in tho and it’s tdi brakes on a 1.9. I don’t think I could live with a 1.9

You can’t live with it ?? I’ve got a Tdi conversion , 40 mpg , 75 / 80 all day long ... even an abl can be tweaked to pull really well , it’s a van , it’s never gonna handle like a car or drive like one , good luck on your search

Seems like I’ve hit a nerve.
I’ve just been advised against getting a 1.9 and if possible go for the 1.9td or 2.5tdi

I know someone with a 1.9 who had told me to get the td, I also know someone with a td who says if they were to buy again they’d look for a tdi, I’m just following their advice as it’ll always be a nag in my head if I get the 1.9
