  • Front End Help

    Hi All,

My first post so please treat me gently.

I have a '99 1.9 and a '96 2.4 (which is really a shed). Now my '99 is giving me some front end rumbles. Can I swap over calipers, hubs and drive shafts from my '96 to my '99 ?

Comes out as such a simple question.

    Thanks in advance.

If the gearbox is the same the drive shafts fit and so the rest.
But to be sure refer to S49
And hello and welcome. Pics from both vans are mandatory [emoji12]

Welcome. Apologise if I'm stating the obvious but do you know that your front end rumble is down to faults with the caliper , hubs and drive shafts?

And the solution is to swap & fix with the "2.4 shed" parts?

Im not entirely sure whre the rumble stems. When I started to investigate I wanted to be armed with options.

And yes fix with the shed parts as that defo does not rumble

Hi. Mate. Your parts will fit if the shafts are the same

                  Good luck

Hello and welcome. I have fitted brakes from a 2003 plate 2.5tdi on our 1998 1.9td so as far as i', aware the hubs are the same. Not sure if the drive shafts are inter changeable from the 5 cylinder gearboxes and the 4 cylinder. Is the rumble road speed related or when braking. First thoughts would be wheel bearing. If its over rough ground could be anti roll bar bushs.

I’d say wheel bearing aswell , jack up the front of the van and check each wheel for movement by grabbing the tyre and push and pull each corner of the wheel also spin the wheel and Listen to what it sounds like , if it’s sounding rough it’s your wheel bearing , it’s possible it could be your cv joints .

It’s a Pointless exercise in my opinion and a false economy fitting second hand parts in the problem area you describe .

I think its more than the bearing and maybe a number of issues. Steering is a little wild and the rumble is worst when decelerating and sounds like its coming from the passengers side.

Can you feel it through the brake pedal or steering wheel? Could be brake judder(warped disc)

Can definately feel it in the steering wheel. Will get it jacked up tonight when I shuffled the deck around.
