  • Not a t4... but a 2007 beetle!

So after years of moaning I’ve given in and bought my wife a beetle! She has already ordered her flower and what ever else you put in them!!

If it keeps me in her good books and it’s a vw I’m happy!

Now quick question, it only came with one key, is there an easy way to code one does anyone know? Main dealer want £260 odd! I’ll ring round some auto locksmiths tomorrow but thought I would ask here first!

    Cheers guys!

Yes i'm sure there are firms that do it. Think someone was doing it at Busfest last year at good rates.

My van came with 2 keys. But only on worked with the ignition. At santa pot they programmed the key for £40.

If you look on the Ross Tech site & the other forum there's plenty of correct information about programming keys. It's not difficult.

Mmmm having just the key and the car and no other data... looks like a trip to the main dealer or auto locksmith. I think that doing the remote central looks easy, just the immobiliser that looks tricky!

I'd always advice getting a second key cut and if its chipped get programmed. As its a right pain once your only key is broken, worn or lost. Am lucky with our 2 vans as they don't have a chip in the key. I got 2 genuine vdub blanks from fleabay (7.99posted they also did programmable keys ) and got them cut at the shoe repairers/key cutting stall in the market at Skiddy. Stimpsons or what ever they are called will only cut their own keys.

We lost one of our keys, so had a key specialist come out to us. This was last year and cost £186, fir a key that did all the remote locking etc. It was chipped and programmed. We found the company in google. Main dealer wanted £250 plus VAT. !!!

But my point is that you don’t need a main dealer, so can save yourself some money.

Cheers for your reply’s guys. Just as a quick update, main dealer quoted 253 plus vat supplied. I spoke to my local auto locksmith today (took a search on google) and he came back with 150 all in, coded and tested. I will let you know how it goes.

The car has been faultless so far. The wife loves it. Picked it up in thick snow on Friday and it was great. Got a few hundred miles under on Saturday and again it even made me smile driving it. Very nice for a little car!

I have been accused of being an old git for remembering the 70's Polo advert with Bert whats his name. Didn't think Snowrider was much younger that me to be fair.
