BEWARE ! BEWARE ! GT TRANSMISSIONS, STRATFORD UPON AVON

In May I purchased a refurbished exchange gearbox, clutch and 5th gear upgrade for my T4 camper an had it fitted for a total of £955 from GT Transmissions run by Glen Mills in Stratford Upon Avon.
When I got home I found parts missing - plastic engine/battery divider panel, timing inspection rubber plug and the 2 small M6 nuts from my engine pan.
The gearbox developed a whine so another was fitted that had a rattle that was caused by a long series 13mm impact socket that had been left on top of the box behind the selector. This gearbox has developed a leak now and I have found a cap head screw missing from the near side drive shaft flange.
I have now visited GT Transmissions 3 times now and although they have given 12 months guarantee I do not want to visit them again.

My advice to anyone buying a gearbox from GT Transmissions or VAG Transmissions run bye Glen Mills is to pay Paypal using your credit card and you claim a full refund within 120 days if using Barclaycard.

Can anyone advise me of a good gearbox recon specialist.

    Appreciate the heads-up bud.
So if I understand your post correctly..... You're not a happy consumer? What is it you want them to do now having embarrassingly changed out the 1st box? - A 2nd claim against the warranty? Put your claim in writing allowing them to resolve your issues but if not, go through the online small claims process - it might aid you covering any cost differences & reimbursements in regard to getting it replaced/rectified. I use Geartec in Kidderminster. I'm 25 miles west from Skiiddyminster and in the trade , they pick up and deliver and do a top notch job. Did my daughters T4 1,9ABL box in 2014 700 quid then. Not that far from your location even if you have to drop box yourself.

Oh dear. The chap that started this thread hasn't been on since. Hope the above outfit hasn't got him trusted up somewhere. Make sure you come back on and update us so we know you haven't been captured to.

I've been in touch with GT Ltd (Gemini Transmissions) last week, about a 1st & 2nd upgrade gear kit they sell and their 5th & 6th gear upgrade solution. They do a lot of Motorsport boxes so have an extensive component range for the VAG 02x boxes.

Have you used this outfit? I've used Geartec in Skiddyminster which isn't a million miles from Stratford.

Keep us posted Vany5 the other two posters seem to have gone missing since posting about said outfit. Perhaps Herefordshire hasn't got all the hill billies..

Reading this again, makes me think we need a T4 gearbox removal, strip and rebuild thread?

                      Apologies if there's one on here or available on the net for our;

Great idea. What about a search party for the 3 above posters?

                          Great idea Rob.

I've just booked the last week of August off work to get the van MOT ready - this includes dropping the gearbox, replacing the shaft seals, replacing the clutch.

If I cant find one on here i'll defo be making a thread and uploading lots of pics and words!

Si made it sound so easy in the other thread - haha.

Wrong thread maybe but....How tough is it to remove the 5 pot boxes? I’ve heard about dropping subframes and stuff? I’ve got to do my clutch on the 2.4 before too long as it wasn’t great to start with and between the turbo, being constantly laden at 2.5t and towing trailers it’s own weight on occasion, it’s only just holding on in there.....
