  • Bahco spray gun arrived yesterday.
Lovely quality but it weighs a bit.
I like the fact it ships with 5 nozzles but it was rather light on info and documenttion.

    • Hate to piss on your chips, but that's rebranded chinesium tat.

      Stick with the devilbiss.

      Now go paint something.

If you can paint with anything bigger than the 1.4 I'll be impressed....unless you want to re-bitumen a tin shed - or is this your primer gun?

Did you try the collet removal trick yet, I remember getting show it by an old hand, must have taken him about a minute to release all the collets on an 8v head.
S49 - bet you use this method?

      • Nipped over to the unit Picked up some more parts. Couldnt quite lift a complete D5252T into the boot safely so had to split it. Found a big box of valves, twin spring sets, shims, collets and retainers which all need sorting.

You're not. I couldnt help see the similarities too with eBay Chinese offers when I was looking. Its Bahco branded, but tat ? Harsh.

I really like the DeVilbiss FLG5 and the reviews are spectacular, both the 1.4 & 1.8. If I keep the Bahco it'll be used for primer, EM and tarmacadam, OK? Theres a good paint outlet and hardware stockist Ive been recommended to locally, so I'll be calling in there this week to have a chat.

I'll try that trick on the next head.

          • Had a quick finger through the box of head spares. Noted some springs have paint markings on the them - red/white , red/yellow etc... does this denote a matched set or spring pressures or both, likewise with the inner springs these were painted green, white etc. Physically they were all the same length and gauge.

            • OK, not tat....how about 'generic pattern crap'?

It'll be fine, but not a patch on the devilbiss.

To be fair, I use my generic pattern crap gun (mini bergen) for everything, primer, hi build, top coat, clear - don't bother with different nozzles and run all through a 1.0 nozzle - that said, it was getting a bit worn so I replaced it with another one, exactly the same (apparently) and the new one is crap, indifferent build quality/new manufacturer?? I don't know.

My Finex is good, but the obsolete devilbiss that I was given by a forum member was brilliant, even though it was worn out and spares unobtanium.

I painted my van with the Finex.

Note the mini bergen I love so much was replaced with what is supposedly the same but now under a different name like 'america awesome' or some such bollocks, if it is now american it would explain why the replacement is a piece of shit. It sprays fine but the trigger has a non-linear action and the pot lid doesn't really fit properly and drips paint, I had to retro fit the paint pot from the old gun to solve that particular design characteristic.

              Now go paint something...?

Randomly found this relating to the bergen mini

As usual the mig welding forum full of great advice, seems I'm not alone on the paint pot issue!

I have to get my tailgate welded up, repaired and painted whilst the warm weather is here so expect a master* class sometime soon.....

Nice one, cant speak highly enough of my local paint specialist who always took time to give good advice without trying too hard to flog me anything. He was especially useful in my early days when I was just starting to learn how to paint

              * arsehole class more like.

edit: 'US PRO', that's what they are now - see I wasn't far off.

              more edit: this video

I didn't listen to the content, just look at the guys eyes - this is what too much VOC contact will do to you. Off his chops as we say round here.

              • Ahh, after years of pinched and scrapped knuckles using the Sykes spring compressor the ole tractor fella that used to pop by showed me that method. He was full of old tricks like that. Miss his chats and tales. He was like my motor trade granddad.

                • I've got the FLG5 Rob, can fully recommend as a great gun and not a ridiculous price.

The only extra thing I'm looking at buying is a kit to attach those sealed disposable paint pots. Can mix up a few in advance and give longer pot life, and can spray upsidedown better for those hard to reach areas.

                  • Cheers J. I think the FLG5 1.4 will be my main gun, if I can get another deal on the 1.8 I'll return the Bahco "pattern crap". Yeh it was one of the things I'll speak to the outlet about, some mates recommended it I think its 3M PPS (Paint Preparation System).

                    3M PPS

                      • I subscribed to his Channel and put up with the Aussie accent for short periods. He "buys" his DeVilbiss from the local outlet I was recommended to in Derby. Sprayguns Direct Ltd.

I've taken onboard all the comments made.
His top 3 were all DeVilbiss FLG5, GPI & GTI Pro Lite. From the YT video 130ml per panel was his recommendation per panel which has also been helpful.

Appreciate all the help and guidance.

                        • Went over to see a mate of Seans as he's away working atm. He's cutting up a 1.9td after selling his engine and gearbox (failed the MOT) the welding quote could of raised the Titanic.

Picked up a few parts for Sean and I for untaxed money. If anyone needs anything do let me know. Panels were all pretty rotten but happy to look seriously if theres a need. I did buy the swb roof (lol) for £10. I just need to tool up properly for its removal now!

Front bumper was pretty clean but for two gashes. Any smart repair tips welcomed!

Longer pot life - nope that wont work.

Sealed paint pot? Get disposable mixing pots from your paint supplier - you just top up as required.

You can invert a normal paint pot no problem, but you cannot spray upside down, no matter what paint cup you use.

Grind it back tidy, repair and stop any cracks then fill with bumper filler.

Yeah I currently use disposable paint pots, pretty good for the cost.

Yeah absolutely, can't have the pot fully upsidedown, but with that system you can tilt the pot so it's almost parallel with the spray jet, allowing you to spray straight up, regardless of how much paint is left in the pot.

Longer pot life if you're not using 2 pack.
