The vent is for the Syncro’s. It’s to aid in cooling the gearbox because of the 4x4. It’s a genuine VW part.

I always wondered what it was for, got a new bumper because of the hole in the old one lol. VW got me the original vent for it.

It’s really well to be honest. I went up some big hills with no problems whatsoever and then back down them in 1st which is just a crawler gear. I’ve been waiting to try the snow out for years and then it lasted a morning lol

It’s on a Viscous Coupling, so not permanent 4wd but has a diff lock too.
