Well it may be the same inducer/exducer but the actual size and design is far more advanced and fancy than the original:
- extended tips. They do something, a bit more info for those that care here: https://www.turborebuild.co.uk/blog/...-upgrades.html
The wheel is deeper/blades longer too:
This is it all built:
Pulled the problematic GT2052v off and compared them, the sizes are massively different:
My bonding and Reline place is open tomorrow so I’ll get the feed and return tweaked then it can go on. Excited as fuck.
Some heat shield had to come out to get it to fit as the actuator is at the back near the bulkhead so I had to modify the bulkhead with a Birmingham screwdriver.
It seemed to take a long time, probably 7 hours all in to get the turbo fitted but then again I did have to fabricate a new downpipe and modify a few bits but it’s on and working!! I treated it to some fresh 5W49 fully synthetic whilst I was at it.
Shit it’s loud now though with the big turbine wheel letting all the sound through compared to the outgoing Garrett’s vanes being shut and silencing it all. Turbo sounds really good though so my rebuild was a success.
At the start I was only getting 6psi with the controller set to minimum (which will just operate the vanes at the OEM wastegate spec) but after a few tentative Italian tuneups it started make more boost with every pull.
My last pull was 13psi and starting to really shift lol. I’ll leave it as it is this week as it’s great to drive and then I’ll tweak the pump and start ramping the fuel up. I better get a dyno session booked soon.
It sounds like you speak from personal experience?

You just cant argue with FIATS design.... everything that they do is incredible.
I mean it was the 80’s/90’s rave scene at that time afterall... Maybe it was designed early on a Monday morning....
