Gonna be removing as much of the rust as possible with a brush attachment on a grinder first...

Planning on doing similar but with rustoleum combi colour. Absolutely dreading what I might find! Mrs has squashed those wheel plans we spoke about so will just refurb my 15s mate

Remove ALL of the rust.

Hammerite used to be good in the old days before the dolphin lovers took all the nasties out of it, now it just tends to sit on the surface and rust spreads underneath - not help by either poor prep (see above) or water ingress via micro pin holes in the paint which hammerite seems to be good at forming.

I'd go POR15 or Bilt Hamber electrox - prefering the latter at the moment purely from an ease of application/overcoating perspective. (an issue you may have with rustoleum is it's compatibility with top coats)


edit - just googled 'hammerite is shite' for fun - you'll see others share my onions.
