  • What Yellow Am I???!

    Hi everyone,

So had my first T4 for 3 months now - needed a lot of work doing, and still does. Here it is (not sure what the quality will be like, might post a better one later):

But i'm slowly getting there. So far i've replaced the head, 4 exhaust valves, all tappets, oil stem seals, thermostat amongst various others.

One of the issues on the van is that it needs a bit of welding and body repair in a few places - something i am going to attempt myself, happy with the welding, not so happy about the colour matching.

You can probably see in the picture where it's had some patches in the past, with slightly different yellows.

Now i've tried to my wits end with trying to find the paint code for the yellow. I've checked everywhere around the fuse box and cover - no sticker. I've approached VW, and apparently they dont have it on their system because it's pre-1999, or some bollocks like that.

The guy i bought it from said that he didnt think it was AA yellow - he said it is more likely to be an ex-council van, and might be the standard council yellow.

Anyone have any tips on getting a good colour match? I can take the fuel flap off - but where do i take it? I dont have a compressor or anything, so would rather just have small spray cans or the like. But if the only proper way to do it is get liquid paint mixed, then i might have to rethink this.

Cheers everyone, and go team yellow!

    James

Doesn't look aa yellow in the photo. Take your filler flap to your local automotive paint supplier and they can mix some paint to match and provide it in rattle cans. Have a look on the interweb for your local one

      Hi!!

Yes mate either take fuel flap to a paint shop or buy yourself a yellow ral chart off amazon. Doesn’t look AA to me, unless it’s faded quite a bit but yellow isn’t really a colour that suffers from that.

      Go team yellow though!!!

Looks like 1017 to me looking at an online chart. Saffron yellow.

Yeh go Team Yellow - cracking photo Tommo. A perfect visual interpretation & demonstration of actually safely arriving at the destination.

If you have welding to do have a look at our "Blind Faith A Winter Project" in the build thread section.

Looks orange in that light. Is that the Shire in the distance?

                    That is L469 anthracite yellow.

It's a VW code, go buy the paint from local suppliers with the code L469.

You'll never get it to blend over that old paint, to get a decent match paint the whole van.

Took it to the local paint place yesterday and they got their scanning machine out.

Got a couple of cans of this for touch up, will see how well it matches, but will be better than nothing!
