I hate to be cynical but whats the point of this? Stick a tenner or twenty in the charity bucket and then congregate around in a pub car park with a pint - saving the diesel, time & congestion but share the groupie buzz that your doing something positive for a cause.
You think its pointless but we had people joining the group seeing us convoy, not even VW owners but seeing us driving around made them think. People have donated that had nothing to do with it!
John Bishop even posted a tweet about seeing us
For a world thats going to shit right now anything to prove there are nice people is needed
And yes the charity was Papyrus which is a charity for the prevention of young suicide.
The biggest cause of death of under 35s is suicide
In the UK in 2018 6507 people committed suicide, over 4000 of them were men and the highest percentage in men 40-49
I also work in mental health so am a massive ambassador for removing the stigma
Personally think sitting in the pub with a few friends is a shit day but being on the road with 1000 VWs is an amazing experience
A worthy cause I'm sure Sarah., I'll stick £20 in the pot.
I'm not so sure the "world is going to shit" and theres enough support for the many chatities around the UK without driving around the M25 in a convoy for a good feel factor.
We heard an interview with parents whose daughter committed suicide earlier this year when lockdown happened.
The young lady had just been signed for a music deal and was writing an album.
The realisation of lockdown got too much and she had one choice in her eyes.
Her mother broke down, the dad carried on the interview. They played her song. They then spoke to the guy who organises it all. He was a mess, in floods of tears
A very noble cause for sure. I’d still take the pub over the M25 any day. Along with normal traffic, 1000’s of vw’s adds to the annoyance and if there were any air cooled then even worse. A busy day for the AA I’m sure.
