  • crisis from start to now

Well where to start . We got the van 2 years ago after my hubby nagging me for years his brother in law had one for year. We had a lovely folding camper i was 8 months pregnant when i gave in to the nagging and thought it was a good idea to keep him busy. So we sold the camper to fund the T4 took us a few months to find the one. We wasn't scared of any work that needed dong as hubby is good at mechanics on these older engines. The only agreement was that it had to be completely different to any other T4and built not bought . When looking i seen a van with a zip and fell in love with the idea lol. But when hubby brought the van home i could of killed him sold as a none runner half TDI conversion half of the front end in the back. Lucky for hubby it only took him just under an hr to get it running.

After getting the engine running ok next was paint wheels and windows. Brother in law is a painter so helped with all the big parts. Sorry didn't get a lot of pics. Oh forgot to add we put plastic drain pipes on too lol. From the moment on i was it love and hooked lol We had just had our little girl and i could finally drive it as couldn't before as couldn't reach the pedals with my big bump. We sold our car and it became both our everyday vehicle

Next was the inside carpet and installation we chose to do it 2 tone

Next was lighting and cupboards. We couldn't make our minds so paint the cupboards a few different ways till we made our minds up and leatherette the lot. And we got a r&r bed that needed covering. We had to put a cook in as need to make bottles in the van. Had a go at upholstering the bed haven't used a sewing machine since school lol. The work top is from a side of a broken wardrobe.

We made a table but didn't like it.

We used this cart for my daughter pushchair and was used as her bed used to put a mattress in there at the bottom of the r&r bed.

    Looks different now.

    To be continued .........

Ps. I also meant to say thanks for bringing your blog to the forum. Waiting to get to the real nitty gritty of the paint work, then I can do away with the DuluxDulux.

At least your zip turned out better than mine !

The previous owner did himself. He used vinyl wrapping and the problem with that is, the slightest ding in a carpark an the vinyl gets damaged !
Everyday I got to my van I found yet another section 'peeled' off !

Amazing transformation on your van though ....... excellent job.

No worries Kaz, glad it inspired you to do some fantastic art work to your van. Looking at yours from the side, did you ever consider going right up to the indicator with the zip ? The bit that stops at the door, I think it would work quite well.

                    Now I'm reminiscing ! ......... 'Lulu' when I first bought her. >>

Yeah, half the bonnet, and with flowers ! ........ a lot of people asked me why I had wallpaper on my van !? so it had to go. It really didn't suite the 'theme' I was after anyway.

One day I must finish my interior conversion ......... it's on the vwt4forum in the 'Lulu DIY build thread' if you want to take a peek.
My quad headlight project is taking up all my time at the moment. And I've bought yet another T4 ! long nose version this time, the big engined 151 bhp German version.

The next job was sort the engine as it was only half converted. The loom wasn't done and was still using the abl pump so we didn't need to change the engine. Just pump and loom But we had a feeling the engine would come n handy down the line

Next was the bonnet as didn't like it plain black. We put our little girls hand print in both corners.

                              close up of the paint

Next was cab 1st we done the dash and put that in.

Next we started the door card i decided to add some holographic glitter in the lacquer. It looked even better much my hubbys delight as at some point the dash has got to come out to glitter it lol (if you read this hubby you know you love me lol). Got glitter on the front bumper and wing mirrors but want it on all the orange when we get round to it. All the back need going over with the orange anyway as we like the darker like the cab area plus its faded a bit over the 2 year.
