  • Only for the tinkerer's? Simple tuning

Ok so I have already installed a stainless POWERFLOW exhaust system from the cat back.
It's got some grunt, but needs a little more

The van is a 2.5l petrol (V5) which I'm led to believe is an Audi 100 engine.
Down or up sides depends on how you look at it, it's only 4 speed auto. I've had a variety of comments, auto box ...oooh, change it and 'oh did you know the gearbox is out of a car, not much good for a van.

As it is it's working fine, I don't do any shed dragging, the most it'll do is pull my little erde trailer

    So for the tinkerer's...

I want a little more ooomph! , acceleration, top end etc ( that's what she said ),

    Have considered the following:
I gotta be able to do it on my driveway and it's gotta be on a Sunday

Decat, and change for stainless pipe
Remove current airbox and source an alternative way to suck in air. Induction kit maybe
Drop some slick 50 in (maybe not )

Or just leave it the hell alone?

The wifes got a K and N induction kit on her corrado vr6 sound great and goes like a rocket.

I have looked at those, but the only thing K&N look to offer is a filter for the airbox, think that's taking the pishwars tbh

Decat will help, but you might have MOT issues depending on age of van and friendliness of tester. It made a big difference on mine.

        2.5petrol is a straight 5 not a V5.

Not familiar with the 2.5 straight 5 is that derived from the 5 pot diesel? Would love a VR6 t4.

They are fairly similar, don't know which came first. I think the 2.5 petrol is based on the old passat and audi straight 5, the blocks are very similar to the UR quattro engine.

The t4 vr6 is a little underwhelming, they were detuned to 140bhp for the vans. The late 24v vr6 van is more like it, with 200bhp, badged 'v6' in the UK. Unfortunately they are all autos in the UK, but there is a very rare manual gearbox available on the continent you can use to convert a v/vr6 to manual.

The wifes last car was a v5 golf, that thing was rapid for what it was! 70 in second !!!! [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

As for tuning, standard stuff like exhaust, decat, airfilter will help. You could fit an adjustable fuel regulator, but tbh a remap is where you will get the most bang for your buck!

So what's the cost for a remap and what will i get? (apart from the bill)
Is it something i can buy or do i need a specialist, if i can get a bit more mpg that'd fine (not why i bought it)

You will get more mpg, more bhp and torque and it will be an improvement in drivability.
As for cost, it depends on where you go, i have seen people pay £200-400 and i would only go to a reputable company. Someone like a pendle agent...

You will get next to no improvement from a remap on a non-turbo petrol. Not worth the money.
