Looks as I am wrong. Fixing kits just have 2 balls and the inboard socket
That's what happened to ours. The balls looked fine so I just fitted the bush that's on the engine side. Put the bush in then put ball back into it with a bit of leverage from a flat blade screwdriver.
Any chance of gear linkage diagram (and any other such exploded diagrams) being made a Sticky @Activ8 ?
Matt, replace the bush on the engine side and snap the ball in and try it. Reckon normal service will be resumed.
45 or 53 is the bit I replaced. Keep one in the glove box now.
Ah, a drawing, so handy.
Middle drawing:
Part 42 has popped out, looks fine but who knows. Bet 45 is to blame.
41 looks good as does 49. That's my confusion. 49 is a rectangular opening that has 41(round) rattling round in it. That looks bloody wrong from new. I assumed that there was something within it but by the looks of it no. Mine looks as if its cast alloy. Am I missing something?

41 and 42 looked ok on ours so just did 45. I compared the new balls to those on the van and couldn't see any wear. The bush 45 fell apart but the balls were still rock hard.
