  • Advice and guidance

    Hi everyone,
Just looking to start with rust underneath.
It's not too bad, no welding but definitely needs doing to protect it going forward.
I have worked under many cars but not a T4
So any safety and jacking, chocking and axle stands v ramps advice would be the obvious first thing I should ask.
Then we can get onto the rust converter, protective paint and waxoyl suggestions.
    Thanks in anticipation.

I use 2 ton racket axle stands on the sub frame at the front with a good trolley jack. There's lots of rust remedies waxoil/hammerite not as good as made out to be, but theres loads out there.

You can Jack the front up in the outrigger just inboard from the cill jacking point and the rear at the trailing arm mounting, again just inboard from the cill jacking point. Use a good 2 tonne trolley Jack and as Si said the 2 tonne axle stands.

Jack and axle stands as above.

        grinder
        knot wheel
        flap disc

        remove the rust

        remove the rust

and then remove the rust - every last tiny spec.

No rust converters or any of that bollocks - because you removed the rust properly didn't you?

Bilt hamber electrox primer / epoxy primer (rust.co.uk)/ por 15

        Then top coat

underseal or wax as appropriate - 3m/Dinitrol/Bilt hamber

Don't touch waxoyl or any other crap made by hammershite.

Good to hear - it's all in the prep.

There are no miracle cures for rust, just some that keep it from coming back so quick. The only solution is to get rid of it completely and then protect so it cannot reform.

Gathered up enough knot wheels, flapper discs, cup brushes scrapers etc.
              Chassis kit on order.
              Garden finished tick.
Golf turbo clean Saturday or Sunday weather permitting,so next weekend should be a start.
              Can't wait

I bet you're being booted off the site after a period of inactivity. If your using the html site & web pages with a PC/laptop there's a check box in the top row & line of sign-in functions to keep you signed in. Try that.

                        all working now, thanks.
Still not started on under the velle.
Ramped up the golf but wasn't enough to get at the turbo from under, gonna jack and axle stands from side see if that does trick, most can be done from above easily unfortunately not the bkd grrrr.
