Hi the clunk is probably your anti roll bar links and bushes. Will cause a bang if only a small bit worn

I had this same clunking. Nipped a wheel off and saw gaps where there should have been rubber in the anti roll bar links and bushes.

There’s 2 choices of links. One with a ball joint and one with the bolt mounting on both ends. My 96’ 2.4 was the bolt both ends jobby.

Now fitted and the front end is tight as a drum and silent.
