  • Temp gauge testing...

Ok, so the bus has been into a garage and I have been told that I need to replace the whole clock unit.

However, as I have not a lot of trust in the garage, is there a simple way to test the temp gauge to see if it's working or not?

It needs to be a 'simple' way of testing please!

    Thanks in advance

Temperature sensors dont cost that much you could buy one and just try it.

      Thanks for the reply.

Seems the sensor is working fine, but the temp gauge isn't.

I did suggest checking connectors/solder on gauge but doubt this was done :-(

All four of my guages are dead after a brief spell of madness doing whatever they liked. The idiot lights alll still work. I re-soldered every joint last week.....no difference.

I did. I sprayed contact cleaner on them and, visually, everything looked in order. Before they went tits we used to wiggle the wiring around the alternator and all went ok again. I have looked at this but think I need to investigate further as found nowt.
Posting them clips at weekend when I get back to the van.

There are videos on YouTube regarding repairing some solder joints at the back of the cluster, common problem apparently. I've got to do mine as temp and fuel are on and off

I have just looked at their site, the t4 one they have is the older one (green back light) mine is more along the mk3 golf one like the ones Active8 is playing with and they ask you to send it off for repair for that one.
At the moment I am thinking my issue may well be the sender unit although I know they tend to Just fail rather than be intermittent and give false (low) readings.
