I wouldn’t have thought it would be any more than any other mileage head that come off for the first time when I think about it. Considering it hasn’t overheated.

300k+ and first issues for the head to be pulled. Fantastic engines.

    • Yep. The mileage is irrelevant but its where Kevs is at before its untimely failure and lifetime. A guide if nothing else as I've been thinking of lowering the compression and modifying the head.

I have these in both of mine. More of preventative maintainence as I hate noises tappets.

I have a spare 2.5 used set if you want to keep costs down. Came from a low mileage engine with little wear to the rest of it. May be able to test them yourself.

I’ll let you know , I doubt their is any run out on the head but I’m going to give it a light skim just to clean up the surface .

The reason the head has had to come off is because of a seized water pump , amazing really .

              • Whats going on here Rob ?

Head run out was 0.05mm , which probably would’ve been fine to refit , but there was minor indentations around the sealing rings from the head gasket , so I decided to give it a very light skim 0.0762mm was removed to clean up the head .

Finish looks grainy but it’s just the camera picking up the light .

                • Sorry Kev cannot see / pick up the pics on my phone. Thanks for the info 0.05 doesn't read like a great deal.

IIRC , I think the ELRING head gaskets are
                  #1 - 1.53mm
                  #2 - 1.57mm
                  #3 - 1.61mm

                    According to brickworks

                    #1- 0.8-0.9mm piston protrusion
                    #2- 0.9-1mm
                    #3- 1-1.1mm

0.05mm, I didn’t think there would be much.

                        • I think I’ll go for a 3 hole gasket to be on the safe side

                              • Surely you need a 5 hole gasket.........................one for each cylinder.
