  • Did you just fit a new section Arf or have you found a cheap seal alternative?

    Comment

    • For me, a cheap seal alternative. Chop out the bad bit and glue in the new. Depends how you feel about your van though. It is a bit of a bodge. For me though, I don't give a shit. 80e for a seal. Nah.

It's a great solution Arf. I'm not knocking it mate. I need a replacement, think Cali quoted me £105 for a used Caravelle version. I pulled a few good seals off of VW scrappers a few months back to have as a patch backup.

        • Think the slidding door seal on ours was 65 from the bay of flea. I changed the bottom runner also, replaced the rusty bolts but didn't shorted them as the door shut ok but first shut with the seal on put a lovely cut in it ....doh

          • Well it's a bit quiet on here today so I may as well update a few little things.
Here are some shelves I knocked up out of a few old curtain pole brackets and some of the same wood as the little boxes underneath. They just unclip when I need to take the sofa out so no faffing around unscrewing stuff.

Not so happy with the colour I sprayed them as the Chinos were out of bronze spray paint so I will revisit that later.

              • Today I am remaking the overbed storage jobber. It has become clear I will never use the tv as the iPad does just a good job. Given that, I can make it smaller and lighter. It's way too useful for charging phones etc and it holds the lights too.

                The old one.

Sat in the sun to dry the glue. The leatherette needs to de-wrinkle too.

                • Again the facia is in the same old wood as the shelves and boxes too. I don't just throw this shit together, you know. Well, actually I do but..........

                    • Today is Strike day/workers day so a day off work. May as well do something for the van.
Currently we have some fairy lights fastened to the strips of wood that run the length of the van between the roof and the sides. I havte always wanted to tidy these up as they drive me mental. My plan is to hide them inside said strips of wood and then also into the little groove above the top channel that the top wheel of the sliding door runs in. If that makes sense, great. If not, maybe the photos will help.

So I drilled 20 6mm holes in the channels.

                      • Next I drilled 20 holes in the wooden strips. Then cut grooves in them and fastened the lights in with gaffer tape and silicone.

                        • Then I sprayed the screws and washers a copper colour because Reg said we aren't allowed chrome in vans

I then filed and cleaned the rails before giving them a quick dab of grey paint so I don't have to cut in around the lights at a later date.

Back in with the wood and the lights are all but invisible.

I also carved the names of a couple of our camping spots into the wood to keep Mrs FA happy.

I've secured the lights in the rails with silicone and will cover the rail with a trim of plastic covered in faux leather later....one job at a time.

I also refitted the new overhead storage minus the tv. It's much smaller but just as handy for throwing phones up there when on charge.
