  • Howdy all - Ready for the steep learning curve

    Hello everybody,

Definatley not new to VW's but very new to T4's and having owned my first one (techincally, more on that below) for just three weeks the learning curve has been very steep in deed!

Anyway, I am now the not so proud owner of an X-reg (ex) 1.9TD which although not completely battered was worked by the PO for the last ten years. I bought (and paid too much) it with a supposedly knackered gearbox but that turned out to be a knackered engine.

Be prepared for lots of stupid questions that I know will have been asked over and over.

Welcome! No such thing as a stupid question- just use the search and ask if you can’t find it 🤙🏻

Just ask away.................i'd sooner have a knackered engine to fix than a gearbox.

Well I originally thought its easier to whip a gearbox out than an engine, although im learning thats not the case. Also I had a spare gearbox! my own fault though for not checking properly and taking the owners word for it. Although im not insinuating he didnt know as he was just going off what his own garage/mechanic had told him, which was that they had turned the engine by hand no problems so its likely the gearbox..

You've got a 2.4 to go in it then

                Yep,

Thats part of the steep learning curve... I knew there were early and late T4's but didnt realise that there are differences in the engines.

Welcome, I've only had mine for a month and have learnt loads from this forum.
                      At least it's a good colour. 👍

Looks practically mint! Little bit of T-cut and show polish will sort that [emoji16]

                          Tom.
Its definatley a solid base, never been welded although does have some arch rustage which I think is just surface but we'll see.

Came to me with 12 months mot hence why im in a bit of a rush to get it roadworthy again. The guy had it 10 years almost to the day, it was serviced on the 30th august, MOT'd on the 2nd sept and went bang on the 7th and I bought it on the 10th. He was gutted to part with it.

Welcome fella. I had mine 3 weeks before someone parked their Hyundai in the back of it. Just think of the enjoyment you'll have fixing and using it...
