After a recent snap of the van on FaceBook, I have had quite a few requests for more info on my roof console.
So, here we go.

This is the original inspiration, someone bought a toureg one and bolted it in (not sure who did this!)

As well as this super custom job... that master carpenter TURK did, from scratch in his.
N.B. THIS IS NOT MINE

Basically, I wanted the best of both, exactly the right length, like Turks but also OEM, like the Toureg one.

Had a mooch around on eBay and found a Golf Mk5+ Roof console.

Took it apart and slowly too it apart, so there was just the main body and the roof connection section left.
So the actual cubby sections were removed.

Good news was, it was long enough!
BAD news was, it was WY too bloody long!!!

So I was either going to have to admit defeat and sell it on (NO CHANCE) or get the dremel out and MAKE it bloody fit!

Cut off the front, so the buttons and hte light went (I added some LED down-lights at a later date)
Used the same idea as I used for the TV in the back by bolting wood between the 'rafters' for a front to back section that the black holder would just about sit in.

Sprayed all the individual parts either black or textured grey to match the dash.
Which was very fiddly but well worth the effort.

Cut a hold in the carpet for it to fit:

And... the finished product.

Hope my little blog inspires someone else to do something crazy!

Found this little crappy video of it in action.
